Obit – Ms. Sara Sloan-Cox
Ms. Sara Sloan Cox age 82 of Lebanon passed away at 10 a.m. Saturday morning October 5, 2024, at The Pavilion in Lebanon.
Graveside services were conducted on Thursday October 10th from the Pleasant Shade Cemetery with Eld. Ricky Hackett and Eld. Junior Dickerson officiating. Interment followed in the Sloan family lot beside her sister Marion Sloan who died at the age of 87 on February 15, 2024.
Born Sara Sloan February 1, 1942, she was a native of the Pleasant Shade Community and was one of two sons and three daughters of the late Henry Brockett Sloan who died December 13, 1982 at the age of 72 and Lois Lee Hackett Sloan who died February 2, 2006 at the age of 89.
She was a member of the 1961 graduating class at the Smith County High School where she played basketball all four years and was the team Captain her senior year. She majored in Science and Home Economics. She was a member of the “C” Club her last three years at Smith County High. She held both the Junior and Chapter degrees in home economics.
It was stated of her in the ’61 Owl yearbook; “She has a heart with room for every joy.”
Mrs. Cox was a member of the Pleasant Shade Upper Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
She was retired from Bradley Candy Company with thirty years of service.
In addition to her parents and sister Marion, she was also preceded in death by a brother, Paul Douglas Sloan who died at birth on September 22, 1939.
She is survived by two children: Courtney Halbert and husband Tim Halbert of Lebanon, Patrick Cox and wife Meredith of Phoenix, AZ; three grandchildren: Kai Halbert of Lebanon, Carson and Logan Cox of Phoenix, AZ; sister, Connie Sloan East and husband Stan of South Carthage; brother, Phil Sloan of Pleasant Shade; niece, Margaret East Massengille and husband Beau of Lebanon; two nephews: Jimmy Wilmore of Nashville, Scotty Dillehay and wife Debra Grisham Dillehay of the Defeated Creek Community.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Pleasant Shade Cemetery.
