K-9 units make arrests; Female discovered in hideout underneath floor

By Eddie West Staff Writer

Separate investigations conducted by sheriffs department K-9 units led to two arrests on drug-related charges.

One of the investigations  took place in the Chestnut Mound community, another in the Brush Creek area.

In the Chestnut Mound investigation, a female was discovered hiding in a specifically designed hideout underneath the floor of a building.

That investigation, which took place on Tuesday (October 15) began when K-9 officer Sgt. Junior Fields and Sgt. Robbie Woodard went to a Chaffin Lane residence in an attempt to locate a female subject who had an active warrant out of Sevier County for violation of probation.

Upon arrival, a male subject greeted officers saying the female they were searching for was not at the residence.

Officers were allowed inside what was described as a “building”.

According to an offense report filed by Sgt. Fields, upon entering the building, the officer observed two small baggies of drugs, one containing methamphetamine and another containing fentanyl, laying in the floor.

The male subject said the drugs were not his and he had lied to the officers, the female had run out the “back door to the building and must be in the woods”, according to the officer’s report.
