County’s school buildings rated ‘excellent’ with comptroller’s latest report

By Eddie West Staff Writer

A newly released Tennessee Comptroller’s office report lists all of the county’s schools but one as being  “excellent” infrastructure-wise.

Issued this week, the report lists eight schools as being structurally “excellent”, while one is listed as “fair”.

The report does not identify which school is listed as being in “fair” condition.

Rankings issued by the report were categorized as excellent, good, fair and poor.

In the report, “excellent” is defined as being in “like new” condition and continually meets all building code and functional requirements with only minimal routine maintenance.

“Fair” is defined as having sound structural integrity, but the maintenance or repairs required to ensure it meets building codes or functional requirements hinder, but do not disrupt, the facility’s use.

The comptroller’s office report was based on data collected for the year 2022 and includes 1,687 schools state-wide.

Essentially, the report validates, a county-wide school building and revelation program which took place several years ago.

The multi-million dollar program included both new school building and renovation of existing schools.
