Obit – Mrs. Lois Greene Vance

A widely admired and beloved lady, Mrs. Lois Greene Vance, has died at the age of 59 from injuries received in an automobile accident near the Linwood Road exit on I-40 East which occurred shortly after 2 p.m. Tuesday afternoon January 21, 2025. After being Life flighted to the Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, she was pronounced deceased at 5:40 p.m.

Her longtime pastor, Eld. Danny Raines, officiated the 1 p.m. Saturday afternoon January 25th funeral services from the Carthage Chapel of Sanderson Funeral Home. Interment followed in the Garden of Everlasting Life at the Smith County Memorial Gardens with Bro. Brad Whittemore officiating.

Born as one of a set of twin girls at the former Petty-Green Clinic in Carthage on September 4, 1965, she was given the name Lois Ann Greene and was the daughter of Kenneth Wesley (Kenny) Greene who died at the age of 26, on December 19, 1973 and Jacqueline (Jackie) Rhea Massey Greene Buckman who died June 5, 2022 at the age of 74.

Mrs. Vance was a member of the 1983 graduating class at the Smith County High School. She majored in home economics and was a member of the Future Homemakers of America all four years and served as treasurer her senior year. She was also a member of VICA, was a cheerleader the last three years and was homecoming attendant both her freshman and senior year, was a member of the pep club and “C” club. She was a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and was saved on a Friday morning during one of their meetings. She also served as class representative her junior year and reporter for senior year.

After graduation from S.C.H.S., she received her Associates Degree in Business Administration from Volunteer State Community College in Gallatin.

At the Carthage United Methodist Church on November 4,1989, she was united in marriage to Lock Seven Community native Joe Neal Vance. The ceremony was officiated by Eld. Jay Wilburn.

She had many degrees in banking and financial management which propelled her into a life career in banking which she thoroughly enjoyed for many years before her retirement.

She possessed the kind of personality that instantly made you her friend and she your friend. She was well respected by her friends and acquaintances and always had a smile for everyone and a bubbly personality. 

Her greatest love was for her two children and an unwavering love for her husband, Joe, of thirty-five short years. The couple truly shared one heart.

Mrs. Vance held membership at the Brush Creek United Methodist Church, but following her marriage, faithfully attended the Caney Fork Missionary Baptist Church with her husband and children.

Surviving in addition to Joe are their two children, Claire Vance Reilly and husband Patrick of Alcoa; son, Jon Neal Vance of the Plunketts Creek Community; her twin sister, Joyce Greene Haynes and husband Rick of Canton, Georgia, another sister, Carol Ann Greene Evans and husband Michael of the Tanglewood Community; brother, Shannon Greene of the Pleasant Shade Community, and step-father, William (Billy) Buckman of Waverly, Kentucky.

The Vance family has requested memorials to either St. Jude or the Caney Fork Missionary Baptist Church Building Fund.
