Piper’s Ford kayak project moves forward

Plans for a kayak ramp on the Caney Fork River at the Carthage Junction Depot in Smith County are moving forward.

The ramp is being constructed behind the depot at what is historically known as Piper’s Ford.

The depot is located off Highway 53/Gordonsville Highway at the south end of Crump Paris Park in South Carthage.

The work will require the temporary closing of a section of the Crump Paris walking track at the south end.

The construction project is estimated to begin around April 10.

The estimated completion date for the ramp is April 16. Construction projects are subject to change including extensions.
