NOTICE Comes now Jeff Mason, Smith County Mayor, pursuant to the provisions of TCA § 5-5-111(a) (2), and hereby provides notice to the public of the need to fill a vacancy in the Smith County Commission. The seat held by Commissioner Thomas Allen Gibbs became vacant as of 03/14/2019. The Smith County Commission has met the advertising requirements for the vacancy by previous publication on May 2nd, 2019. Registered voters of Smith County have an opportunity to submit names for consideration. The names may be submitted in writing to Mayor Jeff Mason prior to the meeting to be held or may be submitted in person at the same meeting. All persons whose names are submitted must be qualified to fill the vacancy. In order for a name to be considered, a member of the Smith County Commission must nominate the person. Members of the Smith County Commission may also nominate a candidate or candidates to fill the vacancy without the name being submitted by a voter. All persons nominated must be present or submit a signed statement indicating that the nominee is willing to serve in the position if appointed.
