Mrs. Jadwiga Sylwanowicz of the Brush Creek Community died at 2:32 a.m. Sunday morning Macrch 15. 2020 at the age of 96 at the Smith County Health and Rehabilitation Center in Carthage under the tender care of Kindred Hospice in Cookeville. She had made her home there since May 26, 2015.
Mrs. Sylwanowicz was at the Carthage Chapel of Sanderson Funeral Home and was cremated at Cumberland Family Services in Algood.
Her remains will be forwarded to the Maliszewski Funeral Home in South River, New Jersey where memorial services will be scheduled. Inurnment will be with her parents in the St. Marys Catholic Cemetery in East Brunswick, New Jersey.
She was born Jadwiga Chomicezewski in the country of Poland on July 11, 1923 and was the only daughter of five children of the late John and Maria Chromicezewski.
Preceding her in death were two brothers, Stanley and Edward Chomicezewski.
She was also preceded in death by her husband Edward Filikowski who died in 1996.
After the invasion of Poland by Germany under the rule of Adolph Hitler on September 1, 1939, the Chomicezewski family was carried to Germany under Nazi rule which triggered the start of World War II on December 7, 1941. After World War II ended on September 15, 1945 the Chomicezewski family came to the United States and settled in South River, New Jersey.
There Mrs. Sylwanowica remained until relocating to Stuart, Florida to live with her daughter.
In 2013 the family relocated to Tennessee and live in the Brush Creek Community on a farm.
Mrs. Sylwanowica was of the Catholic faith.
Her working career was in a New Jersey dress factory where she did layout for the cutters.
Surviving are two daughters, Hedy Fender and husband Roner of the Brush Creek Community, Charlotte Seaman of Toms River, New Jersey; a brother, Romuald Chomicezewski and wife Alice of Florida.
