Obit – Mrs. Virginia Bennett

Mrs. Virginia Smith Bennett, known by many as Granny B, age 98 of Lancaster, passed away on Monday, August 16, 2021.

Mrs. Virginia was born October 25, 1922 in Gordonsville, a daughter of the late Alvin Smith and Pannie Lancaster Smith. She married Clarence Bennett on December 6, 1941 and he preceded her in death on May 12, 2005. Mrs. Bennett was also preceded in death by daughter-in-law, Candy Bennett, step-grandson, Keith Hammock, and siblings, Sam Smith, Tom Smith, Lucy Robinson, and Naomi Williams.

Mrs. Virginia worked at the shirt factory and at Welch’s for several years. She worked most of her life as a farmer alongside her family. Mrs. Virginia enjoyed church and was baptized in to the Lancaster Hill Church of God of Prophecy several years ago.

Mrs. Bennett is survived by four children, Pannie (Bobby) Tisdale of Gordonsville, Ronnie (Linda) Bennett of Hartsville, Wallace (Melanie) Bennett of Lancaster, and Rita (Larry) Moss of Lancaster; grandchildren, Lynn (Christy) Tisdale, Dewayne Bennett, Wade (Shanna) Bennett, Tracy (Scott) Clemons, Reid Bennett, Shelly (Charlie) Wills, and Kevin (Amber) Moss; step-grandchildren, Donnie (Deanne) Roney, Angela (Brett) Johnson, and Amanda (Brian) Spence; twenty-four great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren; special caregiver and friend,Marie Croslin.

Funeral services for Mrs. Bennett were conducted from the Gordonsville Chapel of Bass Funeral Homes on Friday, August 20, 2021 at 2PM with Bro. Guy Buckner, Bro. Charlie Wills, and Bro. George Reed officiating. Interment followed in the Gordonsville Cemetery.

The family requests memorials be made to Lancaster Baptist Church.
