Mr. Jacob Phillips, age 31, of the Buffalo Valley community, died peacefully at 12:40 a.m. Thursday morning, February 2, 2023, at the Cookeville Regional Medical Center where he was admitted December 22nd from his Cookeville Highway home, suffering with respiratory failure.
Mr. Phillips was at the Carthage Chapel of Sanderson Funeral Home and was cremated at the Cumberland Family Services in Algood. The family has scheduled no memorial services.
He was one of four children and was born Jacob Richard Phillips at the former Carthage General Hospital in South Carthage and was the son of Veronica Lynne (Ronnie) Scarlett Phillips of the Buffalo Valley community and Delmer Blaine Phillips of Algood.
Mr. Phillips had been disabled since birth but lived a full life being lovingly cared for by his mother and sister, Jessica.
He attended Smith County High School through the eleventh grade.
He was a non-denominational Christian.
Mr. Phillips was the grandson of longtime Smith County Sheriff’s office dispatcher, the late Brenda Faye Chaffin Scarlett, who died at the age of 67 on February 27, 2015.
Surviving, in addition to his mother, Ronnie, and father, Delmer, are two sisters, Jessica Higginbotham of the Buffalo Valley community, Valeri Phillips of Rossville, Georgia; a brother, Tyler Phillips of Algood; three nieces, Audrey Phillips, Dorie Ballard and Royanna Phillips; two nephews, Micah Ballard and Jaxon Higginbotham.
