Obit – Mrs. Sue Hiett Perrigo
Mrs. Sue Hiett Perrigo of Carthage passed away peacefully surrounded by her family at 8:50 p.m. Thursday evening October 19, 2023 at her Skyline Drive home. Mrs. Perrigo was pronounced deceased at the age of 88 at 10:17 p.m. by Gentiva Hospice of Cookeville who had been lovingly assisting the family with her final days of care.
Bro. Jimmy Gregory officiated at the 3 p.m. Sunday afternoon October 22nd funeral services from the Carthage Chapel of Sanderson Funeral Home. Burial followed beside her husband in the Beasley-Brooks section at the Dixon Springs Cemetery.
Mrs. Perrigo was the seventh of seven children, three sons and four daughters, and was born Mable Sue Hiett in the Monoville Community on November 25, 1934 and was the daughter of the late William Howard Hiett who died on March 12, 1970 at the age of 86 and Cora Taylor Hiett who died October 1, 1972 at the age of 78.
The six siblings preceding her in death were Kate Hiett Burton who died September 2, 1965 at the age of 54, John Taylor “J. T.” (Beanie) Hiett who died January 24, 1996 at the age of 79, Howard Ray “Shorty” Hiett who died July 20, 2000 at the age of 80, Ruth Pauline Hiett Bowman who died January 12, 2020 at the age of 98, Joann Hiett Wilmore who died March 21, 2013 at the age of 80 and Thomas Pickett Hiett.
On March 3, 1951, she was united in marriage to South Carthage native Julius Dayton “J. D.” Perrigo who preceded her in death at the age of 67 on December 8, 1989 following thirty eight years of marriage.
Mrs. Perrigo was saved at an early age at the Mount Tabor Missionary Baptist Church in the Pleasant Shade Community.
She was employed at the former Carthage Shirt Corporation for many years and in her early thirties she ventured out and attended cosmetology school and was licensed by the State of Tennessee as a Cosmetologist and was a hairdresser in Carthage for many years.
Surviving is her daughter, Anita Perrigo Fisher and husband James of Hartsville and their daughter, Amber Lynn Fisher Harris and husband Daniel also of Hartsville and Mrs. Sue’s special great-grandson, Rhett Gregory Harris; a son, Jimmy Dayton Perrigo and wife Janice Paschall Perrigo of South Carthage and three other grandchildren, Jacob Kyle Hackett of Carthage, Jerri Lin Vaden-Malone and husband Darrell of Gordonsville, Jolonda Roberts and husband Ritchie of the Rome Community; eight other great-grandchildren, Charli, Caiti, and Cassi Vaden, Chelsi Vaden-Jennings and husband Steven, Lucas, Kailyn and Ryder Roberts, Karcsi Malone; a new great great-grandson, Cullen Tate Jennings who Mrs. Perrigo was able to meet before her passing.
She was Mama Sue to all her family and will be sadly missed by all whom ever got to meet her. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
