MURFREESBORO — For the second year in a row, the Defeated basketball program has a James C. Haile State Tournament title to celebrate.
The Defeated Lady Braves captured the 5th and 6th grade Division A girls state championship last Friday night against Fentress County’s Pine Haven Elementary. The championship battle was a four quarter tug-of-war that saw the Lady Braves claim a 42-39 victory.
Defeated completed their 2023-2024 campaign with a 17-4 record. The Lady Braves also notched victories over Pickett County in the opening round and tournament host Middle Tennessee Christian in the semifinals.
“My girls had a great year this year with a 17-4 record and all four losses came to AA teams,” said Lady Braves head coach Wayne Young. “I felt that we played better as the year went on and played our best ball in the State Tournament. We beat a good Pickett County team 30-12 and in the semifinal we beat MTCS, 36-16. We played our best game of the year in the State Finals game. We beat a tough Pine Haven team 42-39.”
