GORDONSVILLE — Last Friday night’s District 7A clash between the Gordonsville High Tigers and the Clay County Bulldogs, featured one of the series’ most dramatic and epic endings in recent memory.

The wild finish sent  “The Jungle” into a frenzy as senior post Eli Adams tallied the game winning free throw with 1.1 remaining — securing the 51-50 GHS victory.

Adams’ two-point basket gave the Tigers a 50-49 lead with 48 seconds remaining in regulation.

Clay Co.’s Lance Burchett went to the charity stripe with 27.2 seconds left. Burchett’s first shot dinged off the rim before he converted the second attempt — tying the game at 50-50.

Following a timeout by GHS head coach Greg Bibb, Big Blue avoided a potential turnover after the Bulldogs batted a Tigers’ pass. Adams was able to regain the loose ball. During his shot attempt, the 6-foot-3 senior was fouled with 1.1 remaining in regulation.

Following a Clay Co. timeout, Adams stepped to the line. While his first shot rimmed out, Adams’ second toss was true as the Big Blue crowd erupted.

The Bulldogs had time for one last desperation pass but it was unsuccessful as the final buzzer sounded.

With the instant classic victory, Gordonsville secured their first sweep of a Clay Co. squad since the 2006-2007 season.
