Businessman passes away after accident in South Carthage

Funeral services were held Friday for well-known retired businessman Mark Reece.
Reece passed away around 5 p.m., Monday (June 10) at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville.
Earlier in the day, Reece was involved in a single vehicle accident which occurred on Highway 70 just west of the south end of the Cordell Hull Bridge.
Traveling alone east on Highway 70, Reece’s vehicle left the roadway, traveled into a ditch line before striking a rock bluff.
Reece was airlifted to Vanderbilt by air ambulance.
The Monoville resident was known for his craftsmanship in woodworking, founding Splinters Cabinet Shop in 1991, a business located in the Monoville community. Reece retired last year.
A 1972 graduate of Smith County High School, at one time he was employed with the former Texas Boot Company.
Also, Reece formerly coached Little League and Babe Ruth League baseball.
Funeral services were held at the Carthage Chapel of Sanderson Funeral Home.
