Obit – Mrs. Mildred Jean Apple

Mrs. Mildred Jean Apple, age 96 of the Pea Ridge Community in Smith County, TN, passed away on Tuesday, October 8, 2024.

Mrs. Jean was born May 6, 1928 in Old Hickory, TN, a daughter of the late Charles Scott Fitzpatrick and Hattie Lee Payne Fitzpatrick. She married Frank Halliburton Apple on December 3, 1952 and he preceded her in death on October 18, 1997. She was also preceded in death by siblings: Jack W. Fitzpatrick and wife, Ardelia, Joe Fitzpatrick and wife, Carlene, Dorothy Allison and husband John and Charles Morgan Fitzpatrick.

Aunt Jean had a quick wit, a sweet soul, and loved her family. She cherished special family moments – births of babies, weddings – as evident by her collections of cards, wedding invites, pictures, and newspaper clippings. Aunt Jean loved to read and always needed to watch the 10 o’clock news. She wanted to be certain you made it home safely and would not allow you to visit in a storm or threat of a storm. She was an artist with sketch books full of drawings. She would freehand and select pictures she liked and draw those. She talked about her “handsome man” Uncle Frank until she was no longer talking. She treated her nieces and nephews like her own children. She encouraged us to get out and enjoy life while we can – to always be safe and look behind you – to shut those pretty eyes and get some good rest and to always remember Aunt Jean loves you!

She was a longtime member of the Chestnut Mound United Methodist Church where she was the pianist. She loved cooking and gardening.

Mrs. Apple is survived by Sisters-in-Law; Willene Fitzpatrick, Mabel Harris, Peggy Apple. Brother-in-Law; Garland Apple. Nieces and nephews; Jeff (Melissa) Fitzpatrick, JoAnne(Buddy) Brent, Joy (Wally)Gray, Richard Fitzpatrick, Chris (JoAnne) Fitzpatrick, and Lisa (Mackie) Howard. Numerous great nieces and great nephews also survive.

Graveside Services and Interment for Mrs. Apple weree conducted on Saturday, October 12, 2024, at 2 PM with Bro. Dickie Johnson officiating.
