Obit – Mrs. Wilma Evitts Price

Mrs. Wilma Evitts Price of the Pleasant Shade Community entered into eternal rest at the age of 91 at 1:30 a.m. Wednesday morning February 12, 2025 at the Smith County Health and Rehabilitation Center in Carthage where she had made her home since July 26, 2022.

Funeral services conducted by her pastor, Eld. Scott Rigsby, and Eld. Jackie Riddle were on Saturday morning February 15th from the Pleasant Shade Upper Cumberland Presbyterian Church. Burial followed beside her husband and son in the Pleasant Shade Cemetery.

Born Wilma Dean Evitts in the Pleasant Shade Community on August 20, 1933, she was one of seven children, five sons and two daughters of the late Sam Evitts who died at the age of 68 on April 25, 1978 and Fannie Loretta Petty Evitts who died at the age of 86 on October 11, 1995.

She was united in marriage to Pleasant Shade Community native James Thomas “Hammer” Price in Iuka, Mississippi on July 15, 1950 and he preceded her in death on December 12, 2013 following over sixty-three years of marriage.

They were preceded in death by a son, James Timothy “Tim” Price who died October 20, 1988 at the age of 22.

A grandson, Samuel Benton “Sam” Reid died on November 6, 2012 at the age of 39.

Siblings proceeding her in death were Thomas Douglas Evitts who died at birth on August 16, 1951, Richard Steven Evitts who died at birth on June 5, 1952, Bobby Gene Evitts who died March 20, 2016 at the age of 85, Claude David Evitts who died as the result of an accidental drowning at the age of 29 on May 20, 1969 and Audrey Carolyn Price who died January 8, 2022 at the age of 75.

Mrs. Price was a lovely lady, always with a smile and was held close to the hearts of all who knew her. 

In her early years she was employed at the former Carthage Shirt Corporation and for many years was a Rural Letter Carrier operating out of the Carthage Post Office delivering for the old Carthage Route one route to the Eastern section of Smith County.

She held membership in the Daughters of the Confederacy and the Carthage Eastern Star Chapter.

Mrs. Price was a longtime member of the Pleasant Shade Upper Cumberland Presbyterian Church.

Surviving is her daughter, Deliah Reid; grandson, David Reid and wife Jacque all of the Pleasant Shade Community, five great-grandchildren, Ben Reid and fiancée Destiny, Lauren Reid, Zac Reid and wife Amanda, Courtney O’Neal and husband Jake, Melanie Bennett; five great-great-grandchildren, Bella, Adalyn & Breece Reid, Rylee & Sophia Bass; brother, Aaron Key Evitts and wife Doreen of the Pleasant Shade Community.
