Obit – Mrs. Hazel Gregory

Mrs. Hazel Gregory age 75, a homemaker of the Tanglewood Community, was pronounced dead on arrival at the Highpoint Health-Riverview Regional Medical Center Emergency Room in Carthage at 12:21 p.m. Saturday afternoon March 22, 2025 after a call for assistance to Smith County E-911 was received at 11:42 a.m. from the family’s Taylor Street home.

Mrs. Gregory was at the Carthage Chapel of Sanderson Funeral Home and had pre-arranged to be cremated at the Cumberland Family Services in Algood. No services are planned at this time.

The Missouri native was born Hazel Arlene Piatt on August 06, 1949 in Timber in Shannon County, Missouri and was one of seven children of the late Chester McDonald “Donnie’ Piatt who died at the age of 64 on February 12, 1977 and Pearl Wave Enloe Piatt who died at the age of 73 on March 21, 1991.

Four siblings preceded her in death, Joy Marie Piatt Watson who died March 29, 1998 at the age of 57, Teddy Earl ‘Ted” Piatt who died January 4, 2001 at the age of 56, Norma Lee “Floy” Piatt who died March 21, 2018 at the age of 76 and Ray Edward Piatt who died August 26, 2018 at the age of 67.

At the Lutheran Church in Salem, Missouri on March 27, 1977, she was united in marriage to Orange County, California native, Jack Arlan Gregory.

On May 28 1992, Mrs. Gregory received her General Education Degree, of which she was very proud.

The Gregorys relocated to the Monoville Community in 1977 from Salem, Missouri for Jack’s job at the then Jersey Minere Zinc Corporation in Gordonsville.

Mrs. Gregory was a school bus driver for the Smith County Board of Education for twelve years before her retirement in October of 2015.

Surviving in addition to her husband Jack, of almost forty-eight years, are their two children, Carla Arlene Erickson and husband Scott of Kansas City, Missouri, Carl Mahan of Charleston, Missouri; three step children, Elizabeth Ann Gregory, twins, Daniel Arlan Gregory and Michael Arlan Gregory all of Salem, Missouri; sister, Darlene Wallace of El Keno, Oklahoma, brother, Darrell Piatt of the Antioch Community in Jackson County.
