Using 3-D printer Gordonsville resident produces replicas of historic courthouse
By Eddie West Staff Writer
A Gordonsville resident is producing small scale, color replicas of the Smith County Courthouse through the use of 3-D printing.
Using a laptop computer, David Anderson spent weeks crafting a brick by brick, dimensionally scaled down image of the historic courthouse which when entered into a 3-D computer can create a precise replica of the historic structure.
The idea for the courthouse project came from a friend’s suggestion.
As a hobby project, the Gordonsville resident was creating miniature buildings for a small scale model train display when a friend suggested one of the buildings should be a replica of the Smith County Courthouse. A couple of months later, Anderson had the first astonishingly detailed replica in his hands.
The process of creating the replica began with a photograph of the historical building which Anderson took in November of last year.
