Veterans Memorial Bridge will also be inspected by state
By Eddie West Staff Writer
While one bridge crossing the Cumberland River in Carthage is being inspected, a second is expected to be examined later this month.
The Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) has plans to also inspect the Veterans Memorial Bridge.
When contacted, TDOT officials say the bridge is set to be inspected this month but no specific date had been set.
Bridge inspections are subject to change because of inclement weather and other factors. So the Veterans Memorial Bridge could be inspected as soon as this month or sometime during the summer.
While no major flaws in the bridge are anticipated, there is a significant pothole in the concrete surface in one lane of the bridge. The pothole is located in the right south bound lane.
The bridge was constructed as part of the Carthage Bypass under former Governor Ned McWherter’s term who served two terms from 1987 to 1995.
