TIGERS, LIONS – OH MY; G’Ville, Cannon combine for 41 first half points, 491 total yards as Big Blue claws out 4-2A win

WOODBURY — Run at will was the perfect description for the Gordonsville High Tigers football team in their 42-27 region opening triumph last Friday night at Cannon County High School.

Of the Tigers’ 44 offensive snaps, 40 were rushing plays as Big Blue rushed for 306 yards and tallied four touchdowns via the rush.

“I thought our kids did a great job and played hard,” said Gordonsville head coach Stephen Jackson. “In one series we had a couple of mistakes. I thought our kids did a great job to just keep playing in this physical ball game. We always want to come in, especially in the second half, and try to run the football. I feel that we have a lot of guys who can carry the football. They are all doing a great job.”

Jackson continued, “The thing they are doing that I love is when they are not carrying the football they are blocking hard for each other. If we keep doing that, we can have a special year.”

Gordonsville remained unbeaten and improved to 5-0 — the program’s best start since the 2021 season when the Tigers’ roared out to a 7-0 start.

“That is our motto going into every week and every game — try to get better every week,” Jackson said when asked how the Tigers’ avoid complacency after an ideal start to the 2025 season. “Do not worry about what has happened in the past, always look at the future and respond the right way. We have a great group of seniors that are going to make sure we keep getting better every week.”
