STINGY OWLS DEFENSE; Owls contain Yellow Jackets’ swarm, snare 2nd region win
By Terry Collins Courier Sports
HARTSVILLE — The Smith County High Owls football team traveled to Hartsville last Friday night to face Trousdale County in their second straight Region 4-2A matchup.
The Owls were looking to defeat the Yellow Jackets for the fourth straight time and square their overall mark to 3-3.
The Owls used a stingy defense that gave up only one touchdown for the second straight game to grab a 22-8 victory and improve to 2-0 in region play.
“I’m really proud of our players and coaches,” said Smith County head coach Matt Dyer. “This was another big region win for us in a very hostile and electric environment. That is the way all high school games should be, big crowds, and loud, a great environment to play a high school football game. Coach (Kyle) Gregory and his staff have a very improved Trousdale football team. They are very athletic and have outstanding team speed, and some good sized guys. Our guys played hard and fought for all four quarters.”
Smith Co. proved to be nearly perfect in third and fourth down conversions during the contest.
They held Trousdale Co. to 0-6 on third down and 1-6 on fourth down as the defense got five huge stops.
