GORDONSVILLE — The Gordonsville High Tigers football team concluded “Homecoming Week” with an opportunity to clinch the Region 4-2A title in their clash against the Trousdale County Yellow Jackets.
After a back-and-forth first half, Big Blue posted a second half shutout to claim a 39-13 triumph and improve to 8-0. The 8-0 start is the program’s best since 1986.
For the first time since the 2021 season, Gordonsville allowed a touchdown against the Yellow Jackets. The Big Blue win was the program’s fourth straight in the series.
Gordonsville improved to 3-0 in region play with their lone remaining 4-2A battle being against in-county nemesis Smith County on October 30 — the regular season finale.
The Yellow Jackets 2025 struggles continued as the unit dropped to 1-7 overall and 0-3 in region play.
“I thought our kids did a great job with Homecoming and everything,” said Gordonsville head football coach Stephen Jackson. “There are a lot of distractions with it. I was a teenager before and distracted.”
“Trousdale County is a really good football team and they are just a young football team that is figuring things out.”
Jackson continued, ““Our kids have to understand that you have to bring it every Friday night. You can not look at any body’s record. I think our kids had adversity but at halftime they responded the right way.”
Gordonsville now enters their bye week with an 8-0 mark, a region title and the best season start in nearly 40 seasons.
“We do not want to just be 8-0,” said Jackson. “We want to be 10-0 and I believe our bye week is coming at a great time. That way we can get away from football for five days — recharge our batteries and have fun with our families. Kids and coaches spend a lot of time here. I think it is going to be a great time for us to get away from football for a little bit and come back ready to make a run.”
