REMARKABLE RUN ENDS

By Shea Haile Courier Sports

JASPER — A memorable and dominant inaugural Class 2A  season for the Gordonsville High Tigers football team came to an end last Friday night. Big Blue saw the defending Class 2A champion Marion County Warriors go on a 28-0 second half surge to claim a 42-14 playoff quarterfinal victory.

Playing in Jasper, the visiting Tigers fell behind 14-0 in the first half. Gordonsville picked themselves up off the mat and battled back to tie the contest at 14-all before intermission.

“Our kids did a great job and battled,” said Jackson. “We got down 14-0 and came back to tie it at 14-14. We were down 28-14, we had no doubts in our minds that we were about to go down and score again, to make it a 28-21 game.”

“Our kids did a great job and I tried to tell them that after the game. It hurts right now, but what we were able to accomplish this year, when they look back on it — they will be able to see it was a special year.”

A 47 yard touchdown connection from senior quarterback J Foster to sophomore Camrix Stott and a two yard touchdown dash from senior Lee Scurlock notched the Tigers’ scores.

Three second half turnovers dealt devastating blows to Gordonsville’s cause. Two of the miscues led to Marion Co. touchdowns including a controversial shovel pass attempt on a Tigers’ jet sweep that was ruled a fumble.

With the defeat, Gordonsville ended their 2025 campaign with a 12-1 record and a season that included a Region 4-2A title as the program secured its first undefeated regular season since 1986.

Marion Co. improved to 12-1 and advanced to the 2A semifinals where the Warriors will travel to Eagleton, a college prep academy based in Maryville.

The GHS football careers came to a close for 13 GHS seniors: J Foster, Anthony Fuller, JP Harris, Bobby Cripps, Mason Cross, Gavin Kemp, Chris Matthews, Lee Scurlock, Jemario Williams, Javier Harville, Tommy Hill, Jeremy Hart and Matthew Peak.

“I thought the senior class did a great job,” said Jackson. “Coming off of what was a disappointing year last season, they came back and battled this offseason. They won a bunch of ball games because of the work they put in this offseason. It is a special group.”

“We told them its about the “G”. It is a family thing. We are always here for them and we love them for what they did this year.”
