GORDONSVILLE — For the first time in 27 years, the Gordonsville High Tigerettes basketball team is returning to the Class 1A state tournament at Middle Tennessee State’s Murphy Center following a 57-47 Class 1A Sectional triumph over the Copper Basin Lady Cougars last Saturday night in front of large contingent of Big Blue faithful at GHS.

The Tigerettes are making the program’s fourth ever state tournament appearance with their first three coming in consecutive years from 1997, 1998 and 1999.

Big Blue made it to the semifinals in ‘97 and ‘98.

“Our focus will be on that first game — it is survive and advance, said Gordonsville head coach Terri Brock about Big Blue’s upcoming state tournament appearance. “We will get to the drawing board and will be scouting. It is important that we get rest going into this — two of us have had illness the last few days. Obviously Mak (Makenize Herron) had to miss the region title game because of that.”

“So it is just about getting healthy, scouting, knowing the game plan and honing in on our execution will be keys. Whoever we are matched up with, is going to be a tough game. To be in the final eight in the state — that says a lot for these girls and their tremendous hard work, dedication and belief. It goes back to doing whatever it takes to get it done.”

The squad’s 2026 quest for a 1A title begins on Thursday, March 12 with a quarterfinal clash with Wayne County (29-5). The two 1A squads are scheduled to battle at Murfreesboro’s Murphy Center with tip-off at 4:00.
