Primary Election; Sample ballot inside
By Eddie West Staff Writer
Residents will be going to the polls Tuesday in the May 5 Democratic and Republican Primary Election.
Meanwhile early voting in the election comes to an end this Thursday (April 30).
The primary election sets Democratic and Republican candidates for the August County General Election.
Through Saturday a total of 249 residents had voted early in the election.
For those who would like to review the ballot before voting, a sample ballot is located inside this edition of the Courier.
In addition, a sample ballot is located on the Smith County Election Commission website.
Next week’s election is mainly a show of support for candidates.
Only one office is contested. The race for the District 6 (Carthage) school board includes two candidates, Anthony Hackett and John Leftwich Jr.
A review of the ballot shows there is only one candidate running as Democrat. Other candidates in the election are running as Republican candidates.
