Obit – Mr. Jimmy Dennis
Mr. Jimmy Dennis age 78 of the Tanglewood Community was pronounced deceased at 1:35 a.m. Wednesday morning July 24, 2024 at the HighPoint- Sumner in Gallatin where he had been hospitalized since June 24th being treated for intestinal complications.
Longtime family friend, Eld. Stephen Farley Brooks officiated at the 10 a.m. Saturday morning July 27th funeral services from the Carthage Chapel of Sanderson Funeral Home. Burial followed in the Dennis family plot in the Garden of Gethsemane at the Smith County Memorial Gardens
He was the second of seven children, six sons and a daughter, born to the late Sam Mose Dennis who died at the age of 53 on July 22, 1978 and Mary Genelle Denney Dennis who died at the age of 75 on December 1, 2001 and was born Jimmy Ronald Dennis at the former Thayer S. Wilson Clinic on Main Street North in Carthage on January 27, 1946.
Two brothers preceded him in death, Randy Wilson Dennis who died April 2, 2022 at the age of 67 and Ronnie Lee Dennis who died November 28, 2022 at the age of 63.
Also preceding him in death was his only brother-in-law, Ronald Mickel who died December 27, 2021 at the age of 72.
Mr. Dennis attended Smith County High School.
At the Jackson County Courthouse on August 17, 1963, he was united in marriage to Difficult Community native, the former Beverly Joyce Dillehay.
Jimmy and Beverly had a deep abiding love for each other, enjoyed traveling and taking cruises, and were all about family.
Mr. Dennis was retired from Pasminco Zinc in Gordonsville as a supervisor in the mining division.
He was saved in his forty’s at the home of his brother Billy and was of the Missionary Baptist faith. As a young man his family attended the South Carthage Missionary Baptist Church.
Surviving in addition to his wife Beverly of almost sixty one years are their three sons, Jeff (Smiley) Dennis and wife Jan Winfree Dennis of the Watervale Community, Bobby Dennis and wife Susie Hale Dennis of the Defeated Creek Community, Andy Dennis of the Tanglewood Community.; sister, Linda Dennis Mikel of Carthage; three brothers, Sammy Dennis and wife Joan of South Carthage, Billy Dennis and Kellie Kendall of Carthage, former Carthage Mayor, Donnie (Teddy Bear) Dennis of Carthage;
Two sisters-in-law, Melinda Williams Dennis and Lila Andrews Dennis both of Carthage; six grandchildren, Josh Dennis and wife Whitney of the Riddleton Community, Grace Dennis Hughes and husband Terry (Hammer) Hughes of the Defeated Creek Community, Tyler Dennis of South Carthage, Chase Dennis of the Tanglewood Community, Ethan Dennis of South Carthage, Jayden Dennis of the Watervale Community; seven great-grandchildren, Maeve, Lisa, Bodhi, Carson and Doc Dennis, Stephen and Karsi Hughes.
The Dennis family has requested memorials to the Jordan Hackett Foundation.
