Obit – Stephen John O’Halek

Stephen John O’Halek, of Reston, VA, passed away suddenly on January 20, 2025. Steve’s memorial service will be held at 2:00pm Sunday, February 2, at the Church of Christ in Falls Church.

Stephen John O’Halek was born on May 9, 1972 to James and Patricia O’Halek in Pittsburgh, PA. He passed away on January 20, 2025. Steve grew up in Pittsburgh and attended Seton-La Salle Catholic High School. After graduation, he studied at the University of Notre Dame and earned his Master’s Degree from MIT.  

Steve moved to Reston, Virginia in 2004 after living in France for two years. In 2012, he met Whitney (Hassell) O’Halek while traveling with mutual friends in Prague, Czech Republic, and they married May 2, 2014. They remained in Reston, Virginia and traveled the world together, visiting 44 countries and territories together. Their daughter Iris was born June 28, 2024. 

In his spare time, Steve enjoyed travel, fitness, and finance, but he loved nothing more than his girls, Whitney and Iris. He always referred to Whitney as his Miracle, and Iris as his Joy. Everyone who knew Steve knew that he loved them both, and that Iris is perfect. 

He is preceded in death by his father, James O’Halek of Pittsburgh, PA. He is survived by his wife, Whitney O’Halek and his 6 month old daughter Iris of Reston, VA; mom Pat O’Halek of Pittsburgh, PA; brother Jim O’Halek and wife Dana of Bremerton, WA; brother Jeff of Pittsburgh, PA; niece Monica Guerrero, great-nephew Adam, niece Eliza, niece Florence; nephew Luke O’Halek and wife Kassidy; nephew Caleb O’Halek and wife Kailia, great-nephew Samuel; father and mother-in-law Mike and Melanie Hassell of Carthage, TN; brothers-in-law Jared Hassell and Joel Hassell, and extended family and a host of friends.
