Obit – Mrs. Carolyn Halliburton

Mrs. Carolyn Halliburton age 83 of the Defeated Creek Community entered into eternal rest on Wednesday afternoon October 22, 2025 with her sons and sisters at her bedside at The Pavilion in South Carthage, where she resided.

Larry Cole officiated the 1 p.m. graveside services at the Patterson Cemetery in the Russell Hill Community on Saturday afternoon October 25th. Burial followed beside her husband.

She was the third of fifteen children born to the late Jesse Winfred Hesson who died April 18, 1981 at the age of 65 and Willie C. Anderon Hesson who died August 12, 2006 at the age of 85, and was born Carolyn C. Hesson in the Russell Hill Community on July 26, 1942.

Seven of her fourteen siblings have preceded her in death. They were; twins, James Delane Hesson who died at birth on October 21, 1955, Jesse Duaine Hesson who died December 11, 1955 at the age of one month on twenty-seven days, J. W. Hesson who died at birth on December 17, 1958, Donald D. Hesson who died October 10, 2011 at the age of 70, Kathy June Harville who died May 14, 2017 at the age of 67, Jesse Vernon Hesson who died June 1, 2019 at the age of 79 and Randy Travis Hesson who died February 18, 2022 at the age of 62.

As a member of the 1960 graduating class at Smith County High School, she majored in Commercial Office Occupations, was a member of the Future Homemakers of America her first three years, and her senior year was class reporter, member of the Art Club, the class historian and a member of the office staff.

The statement made of her in her ’60 Owl Yearbook was: “Her love was like the liberal air”. 

At the home of the late Eld. Arnett Gregory on August 16, 1962, she was united in marriage to Defeated Creek Comm8unity native, Joe William Halliburton, who preceded her in death on April 21, 2024 at the age of 82, following almost sixty-two years of marriage.

Mrs. Halliburton was a beloved bank teller for over twenty-five years, first being employed at Citizens Bank in Carthage and before her retirement in 1995 was employed at the Wilson Bank and Trust Co. in Carthage, also as a teller.  

She possessed a continuous smile and was always pleasant and courteous to her banking customers, a trait that she possessed throughout life with everyone in whom she came in contact.

Mrs. Halliburton was a member of the Montrose Church of Christ in the Defeated Creek Community.

Surviving are her two sons, Michael Joe Halliburton and wife Connie Turner Halliburton and their two children, Lacey Williams and husband Russ and their two children, Harper and Hadley Williams, Bradford Halliburton and wife Haley and their two children Huck and Hollyn Halliburton all of the Hickman Community; Mitchell Halliburton and wife Kerri Kemp Halliburton of the Defeated Creek Community, and their two sons, Addison Halliburton and wife Cayce Forrester Halliburton of South Carthage, Levi Halliburton of the Defeated Creek Community; two sisters, Teresaa Hesson Woodard and husband Chris of Hartsville, Betty Hesson Hubbard and husband Jerry of the Monoville Community; five brothers, Daniel Hesson and Darrell Hesson both of the Russell Hill Community, Windle Hesson and wife Regina of the Rocky Mound Community, Rickey Hesson and wife Martha of the Riddleton Community, Ronald Hesson of the Defeated Creek Community.

The Hesson family requests memorials to the Patterson Cemetery Mowing Fund.
