Obit- Mr. John Jones
Mr. John Jones, age 57 of Carthage, passed peacefully to his heavenly reward with his only brother and sister-in-law at his bedside. John was pronounced deceased at 2:40 p.m. Thursday afternoon June 25, 2026 at Alive Hospice Residence in Nashville where he was only admitted from Vanderbilt University Medical Center on June 24th being treated for cancer.
Eld. Rickey Hall officiated at the 11 a.m. Monday morning June 29th funeral services from the Carthage Chapel of Sanderson Funeral Home. Graveside services and interment was beside John’s parents in the Tomlinson-Hazelwood Cemetery on Eatons Creek Road in the Joelton Community on Monday afternoon June 29th.
Born John Turner Jones Jr. in Nashville on October 12, 1968, he was the eldest of two sons of the late Bordeaux Community native John Turner (J. T.) Jones Sr. who died at the age of 83 on December 9, 2009 and Pulaski native, Shelbie Jean Sharp Jones, who died at the age of 80 on August 9, 2017. John’s parents were married for fifty-one years before Mrs. Shelbie’s death.
Mr. Jones was a 1986 graduate at Smith County High School where he excelled in sports as a four-year member of the Owl Football team. His senior year, he was football team Captain of the Owls squad that went to the state semi-finals in the playoffs.
Following graduation, he attended and graduated from Tennessee Technological University in Cookeville with a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering.
Mr. Jones was employed by the Tennessee Department of Transportation as a civil engineer for over 30 years.
The Jones family relocated to Jefferson Avenue West in Carthage in 1971 from Nashville when Mr. Charles Hopper hired J. T. Jones to be head of machine maintenance at Texas Boot in Carthage following the closing of the Genesco Shoe plant in Nashville.
Having never married, John is survived by his devoted brother and sister-in-law, Jason and Angela Silcox Jones of Carthage. Jason and Angela had stayed in a hotel in Nashville for 33 days to be near his brother.
