Obit – Mr. Joe Morgan
Mr. Joe Morgan age 82 of Hartsville was pronounced deceased at 8:25 a.m. Friday morning October 27, 2023 at his Sulphur College Road home by a paramedic from the Trousdale County Ambulance Service. He was discovered deceased by his wife earlier that morning.
Funeral services from the Hackett Chapel of Sanderson Funeral Home were conducted Sunday afternoon October 29, 2023 at 3 p.m. with Edward L. Anderson officiating. Burial followed in the Morgan Family lot at the Draper Cemetery on Wartrace Creek with Joe’s brother Ralph, delivering a heart-felt eulogy.
He was the second of eight children and the first of six sons and two daughters born to the late Fred Francis Morgan who died June 15, 1957 after drowning in a pond on the family’s Dry Branch Lane farm at the age of 38 and Doris Elaine Wiggins Morgan who died April 13, 2004 at the age of 84 and was born Joe Daniel Morgan on the family farm in the Wartrace Creek Community on May 5, 1941.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Wanda Sue Morgan Hendrix who died at the age of 67 on June 24, 2013, and by two brothers, Lester Gray Morgan who died at the age of 57 on December 28, 2013 and Jimmy Walden Morgan Sr. who died at the age of 76 on February 8, 2020.
In Carthage, Tennessee at the home of Dr. Gordon Petty on October 5, 1959, Mr. Morgan was united in marriage to Jackson County native the former, Sandra Carol Bray.
He was a member of the Philippi Church of Christ in Hartsville.
Mr. Morgan retired in 2007 as an electrician with Morgan Electric in Hendersonville.
He and his wife were active in showing his old cars at area auto shows and he was continually tweaking and shining on his vintage automobiles, which was his favorite pastime. He had amassed over two hundred trophies from various auto shows. Following retirement he began the game of golf at the insistence of his brothers and whether he enjoyed it or not, he was delighted to be with his brothers.
Surviving in addition to his wife Sandra of just over sixty four years are their two sons, Freddy Morgan and wife Kristi of Hendersonville, Mike Morgan and wife Denissa of Gallatin; two grandsons, Reece Morgan and Ryan Morgan both of Hendersonville; sister, Linda Morgan Sexton of White House; three brothers, Ralph Morgan and wife Peggy, Roy Morgan and wife Wanda all of Hendersonville, Buddy Morgan and wife Mary Alice of Cookeville; sister-in-law, Catherine Morgan of Hendersonville.
