Obit – Mr. Paul Rigsby

Mr. Paul Rigsby, a business owner, was discovered deceased at his Nashville home on Sunday morning October 29th and was pronounced deceased by a Metro Nashville Fire Department Paramedic at 8:11 a.m. Mr. Rigsby was 53 and had suffered from a genetic heart condition since birth.

Mr. Rigsby was at the Carthage Chapel of Sanderson Funeral Home where his funeral services were conducted Friday afternoon November 3rd at 1 p.m. with his brother, Eld. Scott Rigsby and Bro. Jackie Rich officiating. Burial followed in the Rigsby family lot at the Sanderson Cemetery in the Pleasant Shade Community.

He was born Paul Wesley Rigsby in Nashville on July 24, 1970 and was one of four children, two sons and two daughters, of retired Carthage banker Herman Wesley Rigsby of the Pleasant Shade Community and the late Cheryl Elaine Toney Rigsby who died at the age of 77 on February 26, 2022.

Mr. Rigsby was a member of the 1988 graduating class at Smith County High School. Following high school he enrolled at the Hartsville Area Vocational school and transferred to the Livingston Vocational School where he earned a Machinist 1 certification.

He was a partner and director of operations of the RED Engineering firm in the Pleasant Shade Community.

In Naples, Florida on June 4, 2009 he was united in marriage to Boston, Massachusetts native, the former Laura Elfriede Hofstaetter.

The Rigsby’s maintained homes in Nashville and his beloved Pleasant Shade Community. 

Mr. Rigsby never lost his remembrance of the Pleasant Shade Community where he grew up and attended Pleasant Shade Elementary School where he loved basketball and enjoyed farming.

He was saved as a teenager at the age of 13 and attended the Pleasant Shade Upper Cumberland Presbyterian Church where his brother serves the congregation as their Pastor.

Fishing was a favorite pastime and he was a devoted supporter of the University of Tennessee football team.

Surviving in addition to his wife, Laura of over fourteen years and father Wesley, are Paul’s two sisters, Lynn Rigsby Skelley and husband Steve of Murfreesboro, Amanda Rigsby Shafer of Lebanon; brother, Eld. Scott Rigsby and wife Jennifer Johnson Rigsby of the Pleasant Shade Community; 6 nieces and nephews, Ryan Skelly and wife Hannah, Logan Shrum and wife Mandy, Bly Rigsby, Brittany Skelley Smith and husband Brandon, Sarah Skelley Smith and husband Brian, Alexandra Schafer White and husband Will; nine great-nieces and nephews.

Paul was preceded in death by a great niece, Savannah Smith who died at birth on February 26, 2021.

The Rigsby family requested memorials to either the Sanderson Cemetery Mowing Fund or the American Heart Association.
