Mr. Jerry “Jaybird” Mabery of Gordonsville was pronounced deceased at 9:50 p.m. Saturday evening November 25, 2023 while surrounded by his family at the Cookeville Regional Medical Center. Mr. Mabery was admitted earlier that afternoon suffering from an aortic aneurysm. He was 71.
A Celebration of his Life will be at the Carthage Chapel of Sanderson Funeral Home at 5 p.m. Sunday afternoon December 3rd with Bro. Jimmy Gregory reflecting on the joyous and colorful life he has lived.
The family will receive friends on Sunday afternoon December 3rd from 12 noon until the Celebration at 5 p.m. at Sanderson in Carthage.
Born Jerry Ray Mabery at the former Thayer S. Wilson Clinic in Carthage on September 25, 1952, he was one of five children, three sons and two daughters, of the late Louis William Mabery who died at the age of 72 on December 13, 1995 and Serena Elizabeth Overstreet Mabery who died at the age of 83 on October 7, 2010.
A sister, Flora “Flo” Elizabeth “Wibby” Mabery Runnells preceded Jaybird in death on December 7, 2021 at the age of 74.
In Gordonsville on November 22, 1974 he was united in marriage to the former Vicky Sue McCaleb.
The Elmwood Community businessman was a devoted husband and loving father, grandfather and a friend to all who ever knew him.
Surviving in addition to his wife Vicky, of forty nine years, are their two daughters, Marlana Mabery Mofield and husband Martin of the Rock City Community. Miranda Mabery Owen and husband Kyle of Gordonsville, three granddaughters, Savanna Bryant, Finleigh Owen and Nealee Rae Owen; sister, Elaine Mabery Bumpus and husband Fred of Lebanon; two brothers, Frank Mabery and wife Anita Skelton Mabery and Louis “Dooner” Mabery and wife Teresa Phillips Mabery all of Gordonsville; brother-in-law, David Runnells of South Carthage several nieces and nephews.
The Mabery Family has requested memorials to the Smith County Humane Society.
