Lifelong Pleasant Shade Community farmer, Mr. L. B. Thompson, was pronounced deceased at 11:37 p.m. Wednesday evening January 17, 2024 at the Smith County Health and Rehabilitation Center in Carthage where he had made his home since October 19, 2018 due to failing health. Mr. Thompson was 71.
Eld. Scott Rigsby, Mr. Thompson’s pastor, officiated at the 1 p.m. Tuesday afternoon January 23rd funeral services from the Carthage Chapel of Sanderson Funeral Home. Burial followed in the Winkler family lot at the Sanderson Cemetery in Pleasant Shade.
Born L. B. Thompson in the Happy Hollow in the Pleasant Shade Community on March 4, 1952, he was the one of five children, two sons and three daughters of the late William Harley Thompson who died at the age of 73 on February 14, 1994 and Bertha Lilly Sircy Thompson who died at the age of 89 on October 16, 2014.
Mr. Thompson was also preceded in death by a brother, William Ernest Thompson who died April 14, 1977 at the age of 34 and a sister, Ruby Thompson Thomas who died January 4, 2016 at the age of 74.
He was united in marriage to the former Myra Louise Winkler on June 24, 1990 at the Pleasant Shade Upper Cumberland Presbyterian Church with Eld. Charles Jones officiating the ceremony.
Mr. Thompson was saved on a Monday night in January and was baptized into the Pleasant Shade Upper Cumberland Presbyterian Church by then pastor, the late Eld. Jake Collins.
Surviving in addition to his wife Myra, of over thirty three years, are his two sisters, Linda Thompson of Pleasant Shade and Carolyn Thompson Lowe of Franklin, Kentucky; brother, Larry Thompson and wife Lisa of Pleasant Shade.
The family requests memorials to the Sanderson Cemetery Mowing Fund.
