Obit – Mrs. Holly Smith White

Many hearts are broken because of the passing of a dear friend, wife, mother and daughter who was a cherished soul and was beloved by so many.

Holly Smith White passed quietly at 4:08 p.m. Wednesday afternoon January 24, 2024 with her husband of twenty two years by her bedside and so many other family and classmates present. The 52 year old Mrs. White was pronounced deceased at 5:40 p.m. by Gentiva Hospice of Livingston who had been lovingly, and with compassion, assisting the family with her care.

Her pastor, Bro. Jackie Dawson officiated at the 1 p.m. Saturday afternoon January 27th funeral services from the Carthage Chapel of Sanderson Funeral Home assisted by Tennessee Highway Patrol Captain R. C. Christian. Dusty Dunbar Rutledge delivered the eulogy. Burial followed in the Beasley-Brooks section at the Dixon Springs Cemetery.

One of two children, a daughter and a son, of Raymond Allen Smith and Jody Rollins Smith of the Four-Way-Inn Community, she was born Holly Jane Smith at the former Smith County Hospital in Carthage on December 22, 1971.

At the Smith family home on July 9, 2004, she was united in marriage to Carthage native Tracy Alan White. The ceremony was performed by Bro. Jackie Dawson.

Mrs. White was a 1990 graduate of Smith County High School where she majored in music, was class reporter in the pep club her freshman year, in the Pep band, French Club and attained perfect attendance, and was also the band queen, all her sophomore year. 

She was a member of the “Pride of the Upper Cumberland” marching band all four years and during those years was in the Spring, Festival, the Christmas concert and was active in the 4-H club all four years, represented Smith County 4-H in the All-Star Conference her junior year, was a member of the Future Business Leaders of America was class Parliamentarian and represented Smith County High at the state convention. She was also a member of Students Against Drunk Driving her senior year and was a member of the speech and drama club and in the junior play her junior year

She was in the homecoming court her sophomore and senior year, was on the yearbook staff as the artist and also served as the senior class representative.

Following graduation at S. C. H. S. she enrolled at Tennessee State University in Nashville where she received her Bachelor of Science in Social Work in 1995.

She was the longtime social worker at Smith County Health Care and in 2013 began a career with the State of Tennessee Department of Children’s Services as a case worker and in that position, which she loved because she could help children, she was able to place dozens of children in foster care and in many cases arrange for them to be adopted by loving families. 

Mrs. White was a member of the Carthage Full Gospel Church.

Surviving in addition to her husband, T.H.P. Sergeant Tracy White and her parents, is her son, Chance Dixon Waller of Lebanon; brother, Chad Smith and wife Christie of the Four-Way Inn Community; mother-in-law, Nancy Carol Hammond and husband James of Carthage.

The White family requests memorials to either the Smith County Humane Society or Sherry’s Run.
