Obit – Mrs. Geneva Claywell White

South Carthage resident, Mrs. Geneva Claywell White, was pronounced deceased at 5:45 p.m. Saturday evening February 17, 2024 at the age of 94 at the Smith County Health and Rehabilitation Center in Carthage where she had made her home since June 2, 2023.

Graveside services were conducted Tuesday afternoon February 20th at 1 p.m. from the Defeated Creek Memorial Gardens. Bro. Frank Bratcher  officiated and burial was beside her husband in section five of the Defeated Creek Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. White was the third of ten children, four daughters and six sons, born to the late Arthur Bryant Claywell Sr., who died at the age of 85 on September 21, 1985 and Flossie May Robinson Claywell who died at the age of 75 on June 5, 1982 and was born Geneva Frances Claywell in Nashville on March 17, 1929 and was reared in the Defeated Creek Community and attended Smith County High School through the 9th grade.

She was preceded in death by three sisters, Evelyn Joyce Claywell who died at 1 year of age on February 29, 1932, Elizabeth “Betty” Claywell Zukas who died August 3, 2009 at the age of 82, Myra Joy Claywell Powell who died March 15, 2005 at the age of 69, and by three brothers, Bobby Claywell who died April 19, 1998 at the age of 65, Arthur Bryant Claywell Jr. who died October 31, 2002 at the age of 77, and Jimmy Claywell who died September 5, 2018 at the age of 79.

Mrs. Claywell was preceded in death by her husband of almost thirty years, Nashville native Berry Alvin “Buck” White who preceded her in death at the age of 66 on September 14, 1985. They were united in marriage on December 10, 1955.

Mrs. White was a homemaker and was a member of the Saturn Drive Baptist Church in Nashville.

Surviving are her three brothers, Terry Claywell and wife Evonne Bransford Claywell of the Defeated Creek Community, Phil Claywell and wife Linda Swann Claywell of the Buffalo Community, Steve Claywell and wife Darlene Blair Claywell also of the Buffalo Community.
