Obit – Donald Bruce Apple

Donald Bruce Apple passed away peacefully at Skyline Hospital of a stroke on Sunday, May 12, 2024, at the age of 71, with his loving family at his side.

Bruce was born on April 24, 1953 at the Dr. Thayer Wilson’s clinic in Carthage, TN to parents Dan & Lillie Apple, who preceded him in death.

Surviving Bruce is his loving, devoted wife of over forty seven years, Karen Huff Apple; sons, Anthony Apple (Anna) and Drew Apple (Erica); grandchildren, Arron, Lily, Eli and Levi Apple; sister and brother, Jean Williams (Fred) and Kenneth Apple (Anita); a host of aunts and uncles, nieces and nephews, cousins, neighbors, friends, and notably, the Huff family.

In 1972, Bruce graduated from Gordonsville High School, and in 1976, he graduated from Tennessee Technological University in Cookeville, TN. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Agricultural Business, and he was a member of the Alpha Gamma Sigma fraternity.

God was the center stone for the majority of Bruce’s life as he was saved by the age of 13 at Macedonia The Baptist Church of Christ in Club Springs, TN where he remained a member and served as a deacon until his death.

In 1978, Bruce joined the South Side Lions Club. Throughout his years with the organization, he proudly served as president and secretary, respectively. Additionally, he was obedient as Zone Chairman and Region Chairman of District 12S for 19 years. He was also the recipient of the Melvin Jones Fellowship Award.

Outside of being dedicated to God and his church, family and the Lions Club, Bruce served as a coach of the Gordonsville Youth League for several years and assisted in press box announcements for the Gordonsville High School football team.

Bruce worked for the TN Farmers Management Program at the Smith County Co-op. After several years with Smith County Farmers, he then went to work for the TN Farmers Co-op in La Vergne. After retiring from the Co-op, he labored at the Dana Corporation where he formed life-long friendships with colleagues that continued well after he was unable to work.

Funeral Services for Mr. Apple were conducted from the Gordonsville Chapel of Bass Funeral Homes on Wednesday, May 15, 2024 at 1pm with Bro. Tim Bennett and Bro. Garry McBride officiating. Interment followed in the Gordonsville Cemetery with Bro. Burl Rice officiating.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to Southside Lions Club or Club Springs Macedonia The Baptist Church of Christ.
