Obit – Mrs. Rhonda Michelle Brown Gregory

A longtime Carthage business lady, Mrs. Rhonda Michelle Brown Gregory age 50, a homemaker of Hartsville, transitioned to be with her Heavenly Father at 3:13 a.m. Tuesday morning May 14, 2024 at the Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville where she was admitted April 23rd. Rhonda was diagnosed with lupus in 2012 which led to liver failure in 2017. 

Sunday afternoon May 19th funeral services were conducted by her pastor, Bro. Jackie Dawson from the Carthage Chapel of Sanderson Funeral Home. Following the 3 p.m. services burial was in the College Park section at the Smith County Memorial Gardens.

Rhonda was born on January 11, 1974 in Nashville and was the daughter Brenda Joyce Hall Brown of the Tanglewood Community and the late Fred Terry Brown who died at the age of 68 on August 21, 2012.

She was preceded in death by a grandson, Will Denney who died at birth on February 11, 2023.

Rhonda was a member of the 1992 graduating class at Smith County High School. She was a member of the Beta club her senior year, the French Club her freshman and sophomore years, a member of Students Against Drunk Driving, was in the science and mathematics classes her junior and senior years, was in the Future Business Leaders of America class, was in the school chorus her junior year and was in the home economics class her freshman year.

After receiving her Associates Degree she was licensed by the State of Tennessee as a Para-Legal.

At the home of her Father she was united in marriage to Hartsville native Rex Martin Gregory on December 29, 1998. The ceremony was performed by then Smith County Clerk, Jimmy Norris.

In 1983 her Mother purchased the G. & R Restaurant on Highway 25 in Carthage from Donald and Mavis Alexander and renamed it Brenda’s Restaurant and Brenda, along with Rhonda and later her granddaughter Bren operated the establishment successfully until selling the establishment on March 3, 2017.

Rhonda had a perpetual smile and when anyone entered the restaurant as a customer they were treated and respected as part of their family and left as a friend.

Rhonda attended the Carthage Full Gospel Church.

Surviving in addition to her husband Rex of over twenty five years and her mother, Brenda, is a daughter, Bren Denney and husband Austin of the Rome Community; son, Bryce Gregory of Hartsville; two step sons, Josh Gregory and wife Michelle of Gordonsville, Jacob Gregory and wife Jacqueline of Gladeville; six grandchildren, Tyler Bivens, Angel Gregory, Travis Gregory, Jasen Gregory, Winston Denney, and Wylie Denney and her grandmother, Gertrude Burnett, more affectingly known by everyone as Granny, of the Tanglewood Community.
