Obit – David Brainerd Shaw

David Brainerd Shaw of the Kempville Community went to be with his Lord and Savior at 1:30 a.m. Friday morning September 6, 2024, at the Smith County Health and Rehabilitation Center in Carthage where he had been since June 10th. Until then he had been lovingly cared for by his parents at their Gladdice Road farm home, his family had planned to return David to their care soon when his health improved. 

Private graveside services and internment conducted by family members. Pastor Bryan Bratcher participated in the committal on Friday afternoon at the family farm in the Kempville Community. 

David was preceded in death by his older brother, Dr. James Wilford Shaw who died August 5, 1995 at the age of 32 

He was the third born of eight children, 5 sons and 3 daughters, born to James Calvin Shaw and Iris Darleen Hall Shaw who survive and reside in the Kempville Community. 

David Brainard Shaw was born in Evansville, Indiana on March 16, 1968. 

His family are members of the Carthage Church of the Nazarene and also attend the Kempville Chapel Old Time Methodist Church. 

David was injured in April 1986 while in Honduras on a mission trip, visiting his uncle, Thomas Shaw, founder of Plan Escalon. He was struck by an automobile while riding his bicycle and received a closed head injury, leaving him unable to speak and 90% paralyzed. He loved the Lord Jesus and understood everything that was said to him. 

Surviving in addition to his parents are his six siblings, Nadine Shaw Larson and husband Jair of Wyoming, George Mueller Shaw and wife Leslie, Susanna Shaw Gentry all of Farmington, Arkansas, Rebecca Shaw Punzalan and husband Ray of Franklin, Kentucky, John Shaw and wife Jennafer of Colorado Springs, Colorado, and William Shaw and wife Shavona of Chapmansboro, Tennessee.
