Obit – Mr. Gaylen Angel
A lifelong Gordonsville resident, Mr. Gaylen Angel, passed peacefully into eternity with his family at his bedside at 3:02 p.m. Friday afternoon September 6, 2024. The 60-year-old Mr. Angel was pronounced deceased at 4 p.m. by Caris Hospice of Cookeville at his Hogan Road home with his fur baby, Archie, his pit-bull companion, nearby.
Mr. Angel was diagnosed with liver cancer on August 6, 2024.
A memorial service to celebrate his life will be conducted by Eld. Anthony Dixon at 3 p.m. Sunday afternoon September 22nd from the Carthage Chapel of Sanderson Funeral Home. Two close friends, Ron Christiansen and Clay Williams will deliver eulogies. Following the memorial service, he will be buried alongside his father and mother in the Garden of Gethsemane at the Smith County Memorial Gardens.
The Angel family will receive friends only on the 22nd from 12 noon until the 3 p.m. service at Sanderson in Carthage.
He was one of two children, a daughter and a son, born to the late Donald Ray Angel who died at the age of 50 on June 21, 1988 and Betty June Wilkerson Angel who died at the age of 83 on January 12, 2023 and was born Gaylen Ray Angel in Carthage on June 11, 1964.
Mr. Angel was a 1982 graduate of the Gordonsville High School.
His fiancée, to whom he was to be engaged, Ms. Tammy Jean Beaty Strane, died as a result of an automobile accident in Lebanon on March 8, 2005 at the age of 45.
He was an employee with Cox Automotive Manheim in Mount Juliet where he began employment in December of 2023 following being laid off at the Ross Gear Division of T. R. W. in Lebanon where he was employed for twenty-three years.
The most important thing in his life was when he was saved at the age of 9 and was baptized into the full fellowship of the Hogans Creek Missionary Baptist Church by then pastor, the late Eld. Clay Grizzle.
Mr. Angel was very active at Our House in Lebanon, where he was a sponsor for many men dealing with and overcoming alcoholism, like he was able to do many years past.
Surviving is his sister, Treva Angel Bowman; niece, Shayla Raye Bowman, two great nephews, Camden Kayne Bowman and Taylor Zayne Bowman all of Gordonsville.
Gaylen Angel’s family has requested memorials to either Our House in Lebanon or the Hogans Creek Missionary Baptist Church.
