Obit – Mrs. Peggy Stallings

Mrs. Peggy Stallings of Carthage was pronounced deceased at 11:24 p.m. Wednesday evening October 2, 2024 shortly after arrival at the High Point Health – Riverview Emergency Room in Carthage with C.P.R. in progress. Mrs. Stallings was 82.

A memorial celebration of life was conducted by Eld. Anthony Dixon on Saturday afternoon October 5th at 3 p.m. from the Carthage Chapel of Sanderson Funeral Home. Piano musical presence was by Deona Lee Thomas. There will be an interment beside her husband at the Gordonsville Cemetery following the cremation at Cumberland Family Services in Algood. Mrs. Stallings had pre-arranged for her cremation.

She was born Peggy Jean Anderson in the Hickman Community on August 10, 1942 and was one of two children of the late James C. (J. C.) Anderson who died August 19, 1990 at the age of 73 and Eva Betty Stewart Anderson who died June 11, 2002 at the age of 85.

Her only sibling, a brother, James Lee “Andy” Anderson, died in Longview, Texas at the age of 80 on August 11, 2019.

She was a 1960 graduate of Gordonsville High School. As a child she began her education at the former Hickman Elementary School with Miss Oleta Gwaltney as her first-grade teacher.

On September 26, 1959, Mrs. Stallings was united in marriage to Bluff Creek Community native, Marlin Dewain “Dee” Stallings. He preceded her in death on September 13, 2004 at the age of 63 only thirteen days before their forty-fifth wedding anniversary.

A daughter, Tina Lueta Stallings Gray, preceded Mrs. Stallings in death at the age of 56 on December 17, 2020.

Ms. Stallings was a longtime member of the Silver Springs Baptist Church in Mount Juliet and Carthage First Baptist Church before moving her membership to the Hickman Baptist Church in September 1996 where she remained a faithful member until her death.

Surviving are her two sons, James Dewain Stallings of Carthage and Anthony Stallings of the Sullivans Bend Community; ten grandchildren and twenty-one great-grandchildren.
