Obit – Mr. Kenneth Massey
Mr. Kenneth Massey of Horseshoe Bend Lane in the Elmwood Community died at the age of 80 at the Smith County Health and Rehabilitation Center in Carthage where he had been receiving care since December 6th. He was pronounced deceased at 3:27 p.m. Tuesday afternoon December 10, 2024.
Funeral services from the Carthage Chapel of Sanderson Funeral Home were scheduled to be conducted by Bro. Jeff Burton on Friday morning December 13th at 11 a.m. Interment followed beside his parents in the Garden of the Cross at the Smith County Memorial Gardens.
Having never married, Mr. Massey was one of three sons of the late Lillard Ellis “Pete” Massey who died January 9, 1986 at the age of 64 and Lela Mae Grisham Massey who died May 8, 2008 at the age of 82.
A brother, Gary Randall Massey, preceded him in death at the age of 68 on May 27, 2021.
He was born Kenneth Lee Massey in Battle Creek, in Calhoun County, Michigan while his parents were living there and where his father was employed. Kenneth was reared in the McClures Bend Community and in 1962 the family relocated from their family farm there and constructed a new home on Kenneth’s grandparents Grisham’s farm in the Horseshoe Bend Community where he continued to reside after the death of his parents and until being at the health care.
He was a 1962 graduate of Smith County High School. There he majored in agriculture and it was stated of him in the ’63 year book “Man wants but little here below, nor wants that little long.”
Mr. Massey retired from Graphic Packaging in 2001.
He attended the Mount Zion Church in the Sullivans Bend Community.
Surviving is his brother, Steve Massey and wife Patricia Sevier Massey, sister-in-law, Judith Lemaster Massey all of the Horseshoe Bend Community.
