Obit – Angela Davis Wantz
Angie was born September 27, 1963 in Smith County, Tennessee to Bethel and Helen Davis.
At a young age, she was adopted by Bessie McKinney. For many years, Angie worked in the Governor’s Office in Nashville, Tennessee. She met Doug Wantz, her future husband, when they were both members of America Online. They developed a friendship that eventually resulted in their marriage on August 22, 1998. At that time, Angie left Tennessee to join Doug in Ohio, leaving the governor’s office to become a pastor’s wife. Over the years, they would serve churches in Ohio, Maryland, and Virginia before Doug retired and they moved to Tennessee so she could be nearer to her family.
While in Ohio, Angie worked as a home health aid, visiting clients and helping them with everyday needs in their homes. When she left that position, she began working in a nursing home in their Alzheimer’s unit. She worked there until MS left her unable to continue due to disability. She fought MS as well as numerous other conditions for a major portion of her life, but she never gave up. She kept on pressing on, amazing everyone who knew her.
Angie loved helping people. In addition to being a pastor’s wife, acting in a variety of church roles, she volunteered with Every Woman’s House in Wooster, Ohio (ministering to women suffering spousal abuse), Wayne United Chaplain Ministries, also in Wooster, the Wayne County (Ohio) Guardian ad Litem program, the Ladies’ Auxiliary of the New Windsor Volunteer Fire Dept. in New Windsor, Maryland, The Closet (a local faith-based thrift store) in Herndon, Virginia, LINK (a local food pantry) in Herndon, the Sterling Volunteer Fire Dept. in Sterling, Virginia, and the Hickory Valley Fire Dept. in Sparta, Tennessee. She also helped with the food and clothing ministries at Bon Air Mountain Community Church where she and Doug attented after they moved to Sparta, TN. She also was willing to lend a hand to people in need on a person-to-person basis. Her only regret would have been that she could not do more. At one point close friends nicknamed her “The Energizer Bunny” becasue she kept going and going and going.
While on a “bucket list” trip to see the Grand Canyon in Arizona with her close friends, she unexpectedly passed from this life to the next on July 8, 2025. Her passing leaves a huge empty space in the lives of those who knew and loved her. Surviving are her husband, Doug, her fur babies (who she loved dearly), her brothers Junior, Michael, and Alvin, her sister Jenifer, and numerous other family members. Last but not least, Angie also leaves behind many others who she loved dearly and were considered by her to be part of her family.
Services for Angela Davis Wantz were held in the Chapel of Oak Lawn Funeral Home on Tuesday, July 22, 2025 at 2:00 pm. The family received friends before the service and burial followed in Oak Lawn Cemetery. Rev. Douglas Wantz officiated.
In leiu of flowers, the family request donations be made to Bon Air Mountain Community Church, 6389 Crossville Hwy, Sparta, TN 38583 or Oak Lawn Funeral Home to help with burial expenses. Online condolences may be made to the family at oaklawnmemorial.com.
