Obit – Ms. Eliane Morain

Ms. Eliane Morain of the Hiwassee Community entered into eternal rest at 10:22 p.m. Friday evening October 31, 2025 at the Smith County Health and Rehabilitation Center in Carthage where she had only resided since October 21st. The 64 years of age Ms. Morain was suffering from dementia.

Ms. Morain was at the Carthage Chapel of Sanderson Funeral Home and following cremation at the Cumberland Family Services in Algood she will be returned by her family to her native New Orleans, as she had requested.

Born Elaine Jean Ziegler on March 22, 1961 in Orleans Parish in New Orleans Louisianna, she was the daughter of the late Jacob Ziegler and Geneva Byrd Ziegler.

Ms. Morain was one of a multitude of families that relocated to Middle Tennessee following Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans in 2005. Her family lived in the 9th Ward of Orleans parish which was totally inundated by the hurricane.

Ms. Morain was employed in the restaurant industry.

She was a non-denominational Christian.

Surviving is her son and daughter-in-law who lovingly cared for her every need, Craig and Sydnie Morain of the Hiwassee Community; two brothers, Fred Ziegler and wife “Beanie”, John Ziegler all of New Orleans, Louisianna.
