Obit – Bro. Charles Reid Martin

Bro. Charles Reid Martin, age 86, of Carthage, TN, passed away on Monday, June 15, 2026.

Bro. Martin was born May 9, 1940 in Erik, OK, a son of the late Charles Comer Martin and Margaret Isabel Upchurch Martin. He was also preceded in death by Sister and Brother-in-Law; Allene Elizabeth Martin Ingalls and Clarence Henry Ingalls and Nephew; Charles Arsa LaDonn “Slim” Ingalls. Bro. Martin graduated from McMinnville Central High School in 1958. He received his bachelor’s degree from Trevecca University in 1965 and served in the United States Army from February 1966 to February 1969. He then obtained his master’s degree from MTSU in Biology in 1971. Bro. Martin preached from 1975 until 2003 and was ordained as a Nazarene Minister in 1982. He served as a pastor at several churches including the Gordonsville Nazarene Church from 1998 until his retirement in 2003.

He is survived by Wife; Lois Carol Martin of Carthage, TN. Daughter; Carolyn (Charlie) Martin Brewer of Crossville, TN. Brother-in-Laws; Charles Burris, James Burris, Phillip (Sarah) Burris. Sister-in-Law; Laura Lee Burris. Along with several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Bro. Martin were conducted from the Gordonsville Chapel of Bass Funeral Homes on Thursday, June 18, 2026 at 6PM with Pastor Garry Wix and Pastor Norman Cox officiating. Military honors were presented by the Carthage American Legion Post.

Graveside services and Interment for Bro. Martin were conducted from the Mt. View Cemetery in McMinnville, TN, on Friday, June 19, 2026 at 2PM. Family and friends gathered at the cemetery just prior to the 2PM graveside.

The family asks memorials be made to the Rawls Creek Missionary Baptist Church Building Fund, St. Judes, or the Gideons.
