A sheriffs department K-9 unit undercover investigation has resulted in the discovery of several pounds of what is suspected to be the deadly drug Fentanyl.

The investigation began when K-9 officer Sgt. Junior Fields went to the intersection of Highway 70 /Lebanon Highway and Hiwassee Road.

The officer was on the look out for a pickup truck which would have a dirt bike in the back and believed to be transporting a large amount of drugs.

After making contact with the suspected vehicle, it was pulled over by the officer.

The driver of the vehicle, who was placed in handcuffs, was identified as Don Eugene Griffith, 45, Shelbyville, according to an offense report filed by Sgt. Fields.

Sgt. Fields told Griffith he was aware he had drugs in the vehicle and the suspect agreed to speak with him, according to the officers’ report.

Griffith allegedly told the officer he had two kilos in the vehicle in a backpack, according to the offense report.

After speaking with Sgt. Fields, the suspect allegedly admitted he had 13 more kilos and that he would give them to the officer.
