Obit – Mrs. Donna Shoulders Adcock

Longtime Riddleton Community resident, Mrs. Donna Shoulders Adcock age 80 and now of Jacksonville, Florida, passed away peacefully on May 29, 2024 after an extended and brave battle with colon cancer.

Funeral services were conducted on Friday June 7th at 11 a.m. from the Wesconnett Church of Christ in Jacksonville. Graveside services and interment followed alongside her late husband, Eddie, in the Jacksonville Memorial Gardens.

She was born Donna Shoulders in Cleveland, Ohio on December 14, 1943, was reared in the Riddleton Community and was one of two children, a son and a daughter of Mrs. Bessie Dias Shoulders of Jacksonville and the late Fred Wilson “Sparky” Shoulders who died November 17, 1995 at the age of 77.

She was the first in her family to complete college at the Middle Tennessee State University where she majored in education and received her Bachelor Degree.

Following graduation she relocated to Jacksonville to work as a teacher, remaining in Jacksonville for the rest of her adult life.

She was a member of the 1961 graduating class at Smith County High School where she graduated in the top ten of her class. There she majored in Commercial and Home Economics. She was active in all of band programs, was in the Beta Club her last three years of high school, was a class officer her first three years, was a member of the student council her junior year, was a member of the “Owl” staff her senior year, and was voted the cutest in her class her senior year.

The statement made about her in the 61 Owl yearbook was; “From a little spark may burst a mighty flame”. 

While working as a teacher she met and later married Bedford County, Tennessee native Eddie Ross Adcock and they were married in June of 1966 and he preceded her in death at the age of 71 on September 23, 2010.

After teaching for over ten years she became the secretary for the Wesconnett Church of Christ and continued to work there until her death.

She poured her entire life into taking care of her husband and Mother and was the matriarch of the entire family who brought her so much joy and love.

Some of her most cherished moments was the time spent traveling with her husband, sons, and grandchildren.

Surviving in addition to her mother, Bess and brother Odie Shoulders and wife Edna, are two sons, David Adcock and wife Jill of Jacksonville, Jeff Adcock and wife Laurie also of Jacksonville; two grandsons Evan and Luke, brother, Odie Dias who will never forget the love she brought to their lives.

The Adcock family has requested memorials to the Wesconnett Church of Christ Mission Fund, 5223 Wesconnet Boulevard, Jacksonville, Florida 32210 or the Florida School of Preaching, 1807 Florida Avenue South, Lakeland, Florida 33803.
