Bluff work set for Cordell Hull Dam will mean extended closure to area

By Eddie West Staff Writer

A well used recreational area at the Cordell Hull Dam will be closing for an extended period beginning this month, according to the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers (USACE).

Referred to as the “Right Bank Tailwater Area”, the area includes a popular (bank) fishing spot as well as a common sight-seeing area.

The popular fishing area is a specially designed platform located at the base of the dam.

Meanwhile, the access road and parking area is a popular area for tourists and local residents to view the dam and watch fishermen on boats just below the dam.

Last week, USACE Nashville District announced the area would be closing  in mid-October 2025 for the upcoming construction project.

The project is aimed at stabilizing the rock bluff which adjoins the dam.

The area could be closed for up to a year.
