Road closed as Cordell Hull Lake tile collapses

A tile located along the Cordell Hull Lake in the Defeated community collapsed in the early morning hours of Monday.

The collapsed tile resulted in a large hole in the roadway, Lakeside Drive, a county road.

Two vehicles sustained damage after running over the collapsed area in hours before dawn.

Damage to the vehicles included busted tires.

The motorists reported the collapse to the sheriffs department which in turn notified the highway department of the collapse.

After the discovery, detour signs were placed on the roadway by highway department employees to redirect traffic.

Monday morning the immobilized vehicles remained parked along Lakeside Drive near the collapsed area.

Monday morning, employees with the highway department were using backhoes to remove the remainder of the tile and dig up the roadway.
