Obit – Mrs. Linda Mofield Watson
Mrs. Linda Mofield Watson of the Tanglewood Community went to be with her heavenly Father at 12:50 a.m. Tuesday morning July 30, 2024 at the age of 82 at the Smith County Health and Rehabilitation Center in Carthage where she had only resided since July 24th.
Her longtime Pastor, Eld. Junior Dickerson assisted by Eld. Barney Allison, officiated at the 11 a.m. Thursday morning August 1st funeral services from the Carthage Chapel of Sanderson Funeral Home. Burial followed beside her husband of over fifty eight years, Jimmy, in the Watson family lot at the Will Gregory Cemetery in the Sycamore Valley Community.
She was one of seven children, four daughters and three sons, of the late Lee Mofield who died at the age of 87 on September 3, 1985 and Lena Robertson Jenkins Mofield who died at the age of 64 on January 21, 1970 and was born Linda Joyce Mofield in the Rawls Creek Community on November 12, 1941.
Five of her six siblings preceded her in death, Charlene’s twin brother, Morris who died on September 6, 1945 at birth, Marvin Royce “Trigger” Mofield who died October 24, 2004 at the age of 70, John Martin (John M.) Mofield who died October 28, 2012 at the age of 87, Evelyn Janette Mofield Washer who died November 5, 2016 at the age of 79 and Faye Lee Mofield who died November 9, 2022 at the age of 91.
Also preceding Mrs. Watson in death was her son-in-law, Ben Henry Haynes Jr., who died of kidney failure at the age of 49 on December 3, 2019.
Mrs. Watson was saved at the age of 13 and was baptized into the full fellowship of the Plunketts Creek Missionary Baptist Church by Eld. Walter Deweese and where she retained her membership until death.
On March 3, 1965 at the Plunketts Creek Missionary Baptist Church in the Rock City Community, she was united in marriage by then Pastor, Eld. Walter Deweese, to Pleasant Shade Community native Jimmy Franklin Watson. He preceded her in death on July 15, 2023 at the age of 84.
Mrs. Watson was a longtime employee of the former Carthage Shirt Corporation and later the Key Hollow Corporation and retired from Meritor in Gordonsville.
Surviving is her daughter, Kathy Watson Haynes of the Kempville Community, son, Jimmy Dell Watson and wife Amy Hunter Watson of the Chestnut Mound Community, five grandchildren, Ben Haynes III (Trey), Katelin Trainor and husband Billy all of Gallatin, Kristin Willis of Cookeville, Shawn Parker Watson of the Chestnut Mound Community, & Hunter Dakota Willis of Murfreesboro; sister, Charlene Mofield Bass and husband Charles of the Tanglewood Community.
The Watson family requests memorials to the Will Gregory Cemetery Mowing Fund.
