Election season 2026 underway with county primaries

Election season 2026 is underway.
At the county level, Democratic and Republican primary elections are set for May 5 (2026).
This means candidates and potential candidates at the county level are already out and about.
Meanwhile, residents are debating who’s running or who might be thinking about running for a particular office.
The county’s Republican Party filed paperwork requesting a primary election Monday (August 25, 2025) morning which was the last day to do so.
The Democratic Party had filed paperwork for a primary sometime earlier.
Voters will be going to the polls three times next year, May, August and November.
In addition to the May 5, 2026 county primary election, a County General Election, State Primary Election and Federal Primary Election, each will take place on August 6 of next year. Also on August 6, city elections will be held in South Carthage.
State and federal elections will be held on November 3. Also, elections will take place in Carthage and Gordonsville the same day.
