Director not asking for extension

Planning is underway to take applications for director of schools.

This comes as Director of Schools Barry Smith is not seeking a contract extension.

School board members were to discuss an extension of the current director’s contract during this month’s meeting which was held l a s t  T u e s d a y (October 21) night. However, at the beginning of the meeting School Board Chairman Tommy Manning said the topic was not on the agenda because the director was not seeking a contract extension.

This means the school system will be taking applications for the position.

Director Smith did not address the school about his decision.

The director’s current contract will expire on June 30 of next year.
